| Purpose | A detailed account of one case or a group of cases that offers an insight not already available in the literature. |

| Word limit | 2,000 words, excluding the abstract, the declaration sections (acknowledgments, artificial intelligence use, conflict of interest and funding, author notes), references, and tables. |
| Abstract | 200 words, unstructured. |
| Figures and tables | Suggested maximum of 3 figures and tables combined. |
| Keywords | Five to ten keywords, drawn from MeSH where possible. Enter each keyword separately in the submission form rather than as one comma-separated string. |
| Flexibility | Word limits may be extended where necessary. Include a brief justification in your cover letter to the editor. |
| Reporting checklist | We strongly encourage authors to use the CARE checklist and to upload it with the submission, although the patient perspective and informed consent items may not apply in veterinary medicine. For other designs, see the EQUATOR network or the NIH research reporting guidelines. |
| Permissions | Written permission from the owner or holding organization is required to publish identifiable animals, people, images, or records. State in the manuscript that permission was obtained. |
